Last Day in Bangkok, Bus Trip to Phuket

Our last hotel in Bangkok was surely the most pristine structure these old eyes have ever gazed upon. Truly one of the greatest nights of my life. Big shout out to the boys for hooking that hotel up. I didn’t exactly feel like a backpacker whilst sipping gin and tonics on an exquisite rooftop lounge 64 stories high but one only turns 23 once. Afterwards shit got real, even too real for this blog, but many of you will hear the story soon enough. Currently headed through the mountainous jungles of southern Thailand on our way to the beach and the Indian Ocean. More to come when we get there.

Steve’s entry tells it all of our stupid bus ride but the rest of the day had a few events take place. Before we left Bangkok we did some sight seeing around town to take some pictures. We rode up the river in a long boat to get to another part of town. When we arrived we had to pass lots of souvenir shops. Jono bought a Safari hat that looked ridiculous and Steve somehow outdid him with an even more retarded hat! I took a stroll with Hugh and made our way to a ATM where I took out money but left my card in the machine like an idiot. I got the card cancelled and no money was taken out so thank God! Later on as we waited for our VIP bus to arrive the officers along the street yelled at everyone to stand up and take off our hats. We had no idea what was going on but after seeing Army personnel around all day we figured it had something to do with the King. I wont spoil the surprise because Steve has a hilarious audio file of the events that took place. So hopefully we can post that soon! He also forgot to mention that we started drinking around 9am on the bus. Who cares, it’s 10pm back in Toronto so it’s Kosher! We started to circle of death some Hong Thong which may very well be my Thai equivalent of Jim Beam lol. Hey, we had to represent the Canadians! Cheers!

The word on everybody’s lips was Phuket. We headed out of Bangkok late Thursday evening by bus. A nice Canadian couple gave us the low down on beaches and fun spots to visit whilst in the neighbourhood. So the weary four drifted off to sleep with vision of adventure dancing in their heads. The southbound trip was interesting. The numerous transfers and questionable navigation kept us on our toes for the duration of the trip... but we were focused. The sandy shores of the Indian Ocean were promise enough to keep even the most discouraged traveler calm and collected during the numerous hours spent standing on an overcrowded Thai bus in the sweltering heat. The old girl was sure-footed as a mountain goat, however, I can not really say the same about the drivers clutch foot. Lets just say the transmission took its fair share of abuse on this voyage. The scenery is amazing and truly worth the shear mental exhaustion of the trip. Rolling hills of pristine jungle as far as the eye can see. Every sharp cliff is met only by a lush jungle valley. The road steadily snakes its way through tall palm trees and other Thai floura that I dare not even try to classify. We are close, I can feel it. Introspectively I must ask myself ``does it get any better than this```.
